Filmstrip Projector
Films and film strips in the classroom?
Hello everyone. I had a strange question, but annoying for the past few days had only to ask. I taught sixth grade from 1964 to 1996 and during all my years of teaching, 16 mm reel to reel film (shown on a projector), as well as the occasional film strip were vital to the classroom and often used. I am aware that these forms of media are more likely have been eliminated in the era of DVDs and computers, but I wondered if teachers or students can tell me if these are used increasingly in this day and age. Any details you can give would be great. Also, if you can tell me when you use or see one of these uses. Thanks!
As far as I know it's not even have access to a projector that will play the film strips. However, I discovered an amazing gem (www.archive.org), which contains many of the film strips used to show in schools. I down load them, burn them to DVD and show them on our Promethean board. They are a great educational tool, and for history to show my grade 11 film has been shown that 11 students 30 years ago, it really brings to life how much our world has changed … the favorite show the result is "Bert the Turtle" when we speak of the Cold War.
